Delphi/DaimlerChrysler Pontiac Central Robotics Team 47
Chief Delphi
Pontiac Central believes that FIRST has been a very successful educational incentive for all of our students. Not only have student's garnered scholarships, internships, and employment as a result of their participation; but also they have expanded their horizons for career goals and achievement. For a decade, Chief Delphi has led the way for many other FIRST teams throughout the world, a fact that Dean Kamen has acknowledged on many occasions, Today there are currently 1,100 FIRST teams. Chief Delphi is one of only ten teams worldwide that is included in the prestigious FIRST International Hall of Fame. We have accomplished this task because of strong leadership by both partners, Delphi Corporation and Pontiac Central, as well as strong support from Pontiac Schools.
At the end of each year after coming through our training program, every student team member is articulate enough to speak to media and respond to questions about the FIRST Program. We function as a team and family. It is this special relationship that we develop among our team member that makes our students exemplary.
Finally, Chief Delphi is extremely proud of our many accomplishments. Moreover, the team chooses to continue to create dynamic programs and scenarios that serve to improve student achievement, especially in math, science, and technology. Other teams and the FIRST organization have told us that Chief Delphi is a true leader in the world. After a decade of service to the goals and aspirations that the FIRST program promotes, we as a team maintain that we are just getting started!
The Pontiac Central Robotics Team has been supported by Delphi since 1996. Because of the impact of Delphi upon Pontiac Central High School, Chief Delphi plans to continue our pursuit of excellence and high standards of quality.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The Competition is a life-changing, career-molding experience—and a lot of fun. In 2006 the competition will reach more than 20,000 students on over 1,100 teams in 27 competitions. Teams come from Canada, Brazil, Great Britain, and almost every U.S. state. The competitions are high-tech spectator sporting events, the result of lots of focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated mentoring, project timelines, and deadlines. Colleges, universities, corporations, businesses, and individuals provide scholarships to our participants. Involved engineers experience again many of the reasons they chose engineering as a profession, and the companies they work for contribute to the community while they prepare and create their future workforce. The competition shows students that the technological fields hold many opportunities and that the basic concepts of science, math, engineering, and invention are exciting and interesting.
